LCT Shared Cycling and Pedestrian PathPacific Highway to Naremburn Now OpenThe 4 metre wide shared cycling and pedestrian path along the Gore Hill Freeway between the Pacific Highway and Merremburn Ave, Naremburn has been open for use since March 2007 and has proved very popular. Download map of all access points. Another section of path between the Wicks Road, North Ryde and the Lane Cove River is open but it does not continue along Epping Road. You can though, connect to Mowbray Road when the shared path will take you to Avian Cres, from where you can chose to either ride Mowbray Road or cycle the local bicycle routes in Willoughby and Lane Cove. Work has now commenced on the section of path along Epping Road between the Lane Cove River and the Pacific Highway. Under the contact this is scheduled for completion within eleven months of the tunnel opening ie by end February 2008. There is some controversy about these works on Epping Road. Read this page to better understand what is being planned, that there is already much support for these works and what you can do to support the works. This path was originally planned by the RTA as part of two regional cycling routes between Chatswood and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and between Macquarie University and Sydney Harbour Bridge. BUT the state government cut the funding and so this path does not connect to any existing cycle route at either the North Ryde nor Naremburn end. The path was originally proposed to continue alongside the Warringah Freeway from Naremburn to North Sydney. As this has not been built the path simply stops just east of the Merremburn Ave overbridge on an island in the middle of the expressway. Bike North has raised this issue with the RTA but they refuse to accept responsibility. The only response has been "…the LCT project will deliver a path facility between Wicks Road, North Ryde and Merrenburn Avenue, Naremburn, with a multitude of connections along its length. On completion, the LCT project will provide, at its very eastern end, a connection to Warringah Freeway for those cyclists who choose to use it. It addition, access is also provided to Quiamong Street, Slade Street, Willoughby Road and Merrenburn Avenue. Cyclist access to the freeway will be through a child proof, self closing gate, whereas the access to Merrenburn Road is unimpeded. It should be noted that access to the freeway will be a personal choice, and that cyclists using it will know that they are accessing a freeway. Similarly the route chosen to access the Harbour Bridge cycleway can be undertaken from any number of existing links, dependent upon the cyclists and the route/road they wish to take."
