Boundary Rd, Roseville Rail Bridge Upgrade 2010

No Plans for Cyclist/Pedestrian Bridge!

Boundary Rd, Roseville is a critical link on the northern bicycle route connecting the major centre Chatswood to the vast residential area of Ku-ring-gai. The regional bicycle route, alongside the railway line from Chatswood to Turramurra, was identified in BikePlan 2010 and while it failed to be completed on that schedule, that route this exists on the NSW Bike Plan released in May 2010.

In early August, residents of Roseville were advised that Railcorp and the RTA were to commence work on a multi-million dollar upgrade of the railway bridge at Boundary Street Roseville. A new purpose-built single span concrete bridge was to be built to increase vertical road clearances, allow for future rail expansion and increase to six road lanes.

This upgrade failed to include a pedestrian/cyclist rail bridge and there had been no prior consultation with residents nor with the adjacent councils

While the RTA now talks about consultation, that would be for the road, not this rail bridge.

Bike North and Willoughby Council worked extensively with the RTA and rail authorities during the building of the Epping to Chatswood Railway so that these works would not deter the ultimate build of this regional bicycle route. There is adequate room to make this connection to William St and hence join into Willoughby's local bicycle network.

It is vital that this rail bridge upgrade includes a pedestrian/cycling bridge.

TAKE ACTION

Please send emails expressing the urgent need for the inclusion of a pedestrian/cyclists bridge pathway over Boundary Rd linking William St to Hill St, as part of the railway bridge upgrade.
